Pax Christi Community Conversations

Thursday August , 2026 7:00-8:15 pm (zoom)

Join us!

The philosophical assumptions driving the rapid development of AI and augmented reality technologies are important considerations, especially in light of Pope Leo’s recent encyclical. John Yasenchak, a member of Pax Christi Maine in the Bangor area, will present some thoughts in three areas:
1. A brief review of the cultural and historical context related to technology
2. A definition of transhumanism, its assumptions and impact
3. What the future might look like including resources for reading.
This will be a follow up to Paul’s presentation with a slant toward theological reflection and spirituality. In particular in light of Pope Leo’s letter, we will discuss how we understand and experience the “Human One” in light of tech developments. John’s presentation will be followed by time for discussion.

John has been doing training on digital ethics for at least 25 years, since Google started up, and over the last ten years as it morphed into AI.

We will also be looking for someone to serve Pax Christi Maine as a focus person regarding AI.
