Pax Christi members join over a thousand Mainers for a Day of Action for Gun Safety at the State House in Augusta on January 3, 2024

On the first day of the new legislative session, gun safety advocates from across Maine filled the halls of the State House to hold a press conference and demonstrate widespread support for enacting significant gun safety laws! The mass shooting in Lewiston on October 25, 2023 in which 18 people were killed and 13 people were injured, brought heightened awareness to the necessity for gun violence prevention. Arthur Barnard, father of Lewiston gun violence victim Arthur Strout stated, “We do not have to lose our children. We can save thousands of lives if we just try to do the right thing.”

Pax Christi members along with other faith based and secular organizations such as the Maine Gun Safety Coalition and Maine Moms Demand Action are actively involved in making certain 2024 is the year for action from our state and federal lawmakers. Saving lives is the #1 priority.
