Pax Christi members from all over our state have been participating in a series of public demonstrations being held to voice opposition to the current onslaught of severe cuts to essential services and supports for children, families, elders, marginalized peoples – the most vulnerable among us. Standing in solidarity with millions of people across the country, we are calling for justice, mercy and compassion!
In March and April, ‘Restore’ and ‘Hands Off’ rallies were held in Portland, Lewiston/Auburn, Augusta, Bangor, Belfast, Houlton and elsewhere. Members are also making their concerns known to Maine’s federal delegation.
Catholic Social Teaching provides a framework for us as Christian Catholics to live our faith in the public square and engage in social action.
Our faithful witness is inspired by the Gospel of Jesus. We are called to respond to and to resist the harm being inflicted by the current U.S. government policies related to democracy, immigration, healthcare, education, our economy, proliferation of war, environmental destruction and human rights.
