Events of the day included several speakers at the Gendron Franco Center and a solemn walk to the Dr. Bernard Lown Peace Bridge. Dr. Lown who was born in Lithuania emigrated as a young person with family to Lewiston. He later became a cardiologist and along with Soviet cardiologist Dr. Eugene Chazov, they won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985 for their efforts to organize physicians worldwide to campaign for a moratorium on nuclear weapons.
